“Destiny is a choice, not a chance.”
Strategic Planning
In the development of a Strategic Plan, the process is even more important than the product. The planning process involves five stages:
- Plan
- Implement
- Evaluate
- Celebrate
- Replan
The following are some critical points throughout the Strategic Planning process:
- State your values clearly;
- Develop a Mission Statement;
- Involve all stakeholders in the process;
- Promote lateral thinking and unconventional solutions;
- Recognize and reward effort;
- Always undertake a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis;
- Practice Possibility Thinking;
- Priorize.
A critical point in strategic planning is that people are more likely to agree with a decision if they have had input into the process of arriving at the decision.
In most organizations, Strategic Planning is most effective when a consultant or "change agent" is involved in bringing a fresh perspective to the situation.
